LanternBridge

For parents

Practical ideas from families who play together, plus what is inside each game before you buy.

1Set up together

Every console and PC launcher has free family settings. Before the first session, set daily play time, spending approval and who your child can chat with. It takes ten minutes and saves a lot of arguments.

2Take turns choosing

Let each person pick the game in turn, including the youngest. Assist modes and easy settings are there to be used: nobody has to prove anything on the family sofa.

3Agree the finish before you start

Decide the number of levels or the finishing time up front, and give a five-minute warning. Each sofa sheet tells you how long a session usually lasts and where the game saves.

4Screens and sleep

Try to finish games at least half an hour before bedtime and keep consoles out of bedrooms at night. Look away from the screen and stretch every twenty minutes or so.

5If something is not right

If gaming starts to get in the way of sleep, school or friends, talk about it calmly together.
